Laying out elaborate service features (feature stories involving things to do or places to go) can be extremely challenging, but when you get a really good one it can also be incredibly rewarding. Sactown‘s October/November 2011 service piece Walk These Ways was a beast in that regard. Images, maps, two kinds of infographics, all tied together with a pin-and-string theme I used to tie it all together. Note how I start the story with a bleed off the upper right of the opening page to give the impression of a journey getting underway, with the pins and string matching it to the next spread. A lot of work and love went in to this one, and even more went in to replicating the experience in its online counterpart, with a lot of very intense CSS slinging from yours truly.
