In 2022, Sacramento County launched a mandatory organics separation program to combat this. The challenge wasn’t just logistical; it was psychological.

Even for those willing to participate, there was a significant amount of “sorting anxiety”—a fear of doing it wrong. The impetus for this campaign was the realization that there is no single “correct” way to collect organics; the best way is simply the one that fits your household’s unique flow.

Taking inspiration from the VH-1 “Pop Up Video” aesthetic, we used on-screen graphics to deliver bite-sized “Organics Tips” without interrupting the narrative flow. This turned the technical requirements of the county mandate into “saveable” content that acted as a quick reference for residents.
